Celebrate Fernbank Science Center's 50 years of service to the students, teachers and general public of DeKalb County with an out-of-this-world event.
On August 21, 2017, a total solar eclipse crosses the continental United States, the first in nearly a century. For a few minutes, along the path of totality, the Sun is blocked by the Moon, and day goes dark. Atlanta is not on the center line, so we will not see a total eclipse. In our area, the Sun will be partially eclipsed, about 97%! Weather permitting, we will set up solar filtered telescopes for safe viewing at the Science Center. The planetarium will host programs throughout the day, including streaming images of the eclipse as it crosses the country.
