Learn how to teach engaging K-12 lessons utilizing the Georgia Performance Standards in your Outdoor Classroom! Learn gardening & landscaping techniques tailored for school grounds to create an outdoor classroom! Earn 5 PLU’s that are hands-on and full of meaningful interdisciplinary curricula! Provide the 50 Master Gardener volunteer hours on your own school grounds! |
| Who? | 3-5 member team from your school—including
at least two teachers teamed with additional administrators, faculty,
parents,
PTA members, custodians, or any DeKalb County School System employees
interested in using gardening to educate students and beautify their schools. |
| What? | Certified Master Gardener curriculum, adapted to Georgia Performance Standards. |
| Where? | Fernbank Science Center, 156 Heaton Park Dr NE, Atlanta, GA 30307 (driving directions) |
| When? | June 1-11, 2010 |
| Why? | Many schools attempt to develop gardens without
the basic knowledge that will allow them to flourish. With this training,
you can increase
the success
of your school gardening activities and improve your student’s mastery
of
required GPS’s, thus improving standardized test scores. |
| Cost? | $150 per team – each team member will receive
the Master Gardener curriculum, hands-on curricula, and many supplies
and plants to use in
your outdoor classroom. |

Saturday, April 24th - Family Gardening 2010. “Garden Photography” - Sarah Brodd. Want to learn to take good digital photographs of your own garden or landscape? All you need is a standard digital camera that allows you to change the settings. This is a beginner family-oriented class. Bring your camera and its manual, and you will be ready to snap away! Location - EEC (Environmental Education Center), 2390 Wildcat Road, Decatur, GA 30034.

Georgia Native Plant Society needs volunteers to help on a one-time or on a continuing basis. The Stone Mountain Propagation Project is located on the former Wildlife Trails (zoo) near the West Gate, and is a good opportunity to become familiar with native plants.
